After spending some time with my family in the south, I flew up to Auckland to spend a few days exploring Māori and geothermal activity. #GeographyYAY

Mount Eden

Mount Eden

Flying up in the morning I spent the afternoon of the first day on the North Island seeing Auckland - starting with the port area, before making my way over to the Domain, where the Auckland War Memorial Museum was located, and then over to Mount Eden - a dormant volcano that has the highest point in, and gives the best free 360˚ view of Auckland - one thing I really noticed being how much hillier Auckland was compared to Christchurch!

The following morning I took a coach over to Rotorua - home to the most geothermal and Māori activity accessible. Arriving in blissful sunshine I checked into my hotel, where I was told by a German that I had "ze smallest room in Rotorua", which was in fact no larger than a walk-in wardrobe...not that it mattered, as I was there just one night and it was perfectly comfortable!

Māori Culture

Māori Culture

After treating myself to another piercing to mark the halfway mark of my trip, I went off to explore the local area and seeing my first open hot springs that were only 212˚C, and getting lovely whiffs of Sulphur, I eventually ended up at the supermarket where I decided to cook my own food - in the end I opted for Schnitzel and pasta, whilst wearing a Berlin T-Shirt and surrounded by Germans...just like old times!

Te Puia Geyser

The following day I went off to Te Puia - the home of the Māori Geothermal activity in Rotorua, where I got to experience Geysers, Mudpools, Māori culture, and see a Kiwi bird - ticking off nearly all of my checklist for the country, and well worth the entrance fee.

I then took an afternoon coach back to Auckland, and spent my last night in the city before flying off to destination number 8 - Fiji!

The Peak of Hong Kong

RTW - Hong Kong

After checking in my luggage for the flight at the central station, and being able to nab a window seat for the plane that night, I went off to visit the last sights in Hong Kong.

Starting off by using the escalators that climb up the hillside, with my hand baggage in tow, I made my way towards to the funicular station that would take me up to The Peak, from where there are exceptional views of Victoria Harbour.

After spending some time taking in the view, I then headed back down towards the Park and finally the Convention Centre, where there is a monument to the handover.

After a lovely final day, and finishing earlier than expected, I then headed back to the airport and awaited my journey to the Southern Hemisphere and Australia!

Making it into Austria we were immediately hit by modernity...electronic updated travel information and electronic doors! Once we made it to Graz early than expected we decided to visit the local shopping centre, rather than cramming it into the plan for the next day - however we didn't realise that actually we arrived on a Bank Holiday, and so it was shut...

Uhrturm

Uhrturm

Scrapping that plan, the following day we started with visiting the house in Graz where my great grandmother lived, before climbing the Schloßberg and viewing the symbol of the city - the Uhrturm, and then making our way down into the market place. Being a small city we then had ample time to visit the shopping centre where we ate the classic Schnitzel, topping up our culinary delights after the Paprika Chicken in Hungary!

Beneficio

Beneficio

On our last full day we went to the Alpujarra region on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada, where we walked from the village of Bubión to Pampaneira. We then took a coach to the hippy village of Beneficio. After making our way back to Granada via the town of Lanjarón, I packed my things before meeting with Teresa for a final drink before saying goodbye - what she did not know what that it was in fact a coup into a surprise birthday party - part of which being that her birthday was in fact at the beginning of September.

Party time

Party time

After initially not wanting to meet due to tiredness, she made it 45 minutes late to find many of her friends waiting for her. Meeting many of her friends as well as foreign exchange students in the club, I stayed for many hours partying, until it again reached 4am, when I made the journey back to the hotel for the last time, where our coach was due to pick us up at 7:45am.

All in all I can say Granada is a very interesting city with its history and entertainment. Visiting the nearby areas was also of great fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip - particularly with the opportunity to meet up with some great Erasmus friends!I am now back working on university assignments, before I will make a return visit to Bremen in a week and a half for my last trip abroad this year.

Looking down from the Schloßberg

Final stop of the adventure was the city of Freiburg.
Visited the Schloßberg, playing crazy golf as we looked over the city, and the city centre with the Bächle water channels, before our flight home.
