Hey guys! Hope you are enjoying the nice weather too!

Today was the third bank holiday this month (so much for Germany being workaholics), and as the weather was real nice, I went to the Werdersee with some Germans where there is a beach next to the river/lake. I even managed to get myself a sunburn! In fact, the weather has been really nice a while - this last week has been almost 30˚C everyday, and we've had numerous barbecues at the house for birthdays, work groups or just an excuse for a party! This month I have been working hard, and even with my week off this week, have managed to get many of my reports done, even though they are due in late June. In between this, Camilla held a birthday Party, where she made a lovely rainbow cake for us all...unluckily for her she invited some Mexicans, where the tradition is to push the birthday girl in the cake after she has blown it out...which they followed of course - receiving shocked faces from all the Europeans.

This week brings us to Eurovision, and as usual I made my predictions, and I was surprisingly accurate...17/20 semi final qualifiers precited correctly, as well as just a handful of mistakes in the full final prediction (Including the Winner, which I had been saying since February). I watched the shows with the internationals here from Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, Germany and Malta, as well as some Brazilians - wondering what on earth was going on (particularly shakeyvag from Greece and Grannies from Russia). As I am abroad, it also gave me the opportunity to vote for my own country - which i did 10 times!

Between these events have been a few nights out with my group of Erasmus friends - one time was in a place called Bar Celona, where we had some cheap cocktails, including a milky green coloured one named "Swimming Pool". Whilst this week we went on a pub crawl in the Viertal with Hanna from Hungary's boyfriend, who brought with him some homemade Schnapps - 50% alcohol, which now ranked top of my list of strongest drinks along with the Ukranian vodka with gold flakes in it.

In the midst of all of this, I have been planning my life until Uni in September, and have booked myself a trip to the Baltic States ( Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland) for mid-August, as well as planning a trip to Istanbul in September. Now comes June, which much like May revolves around work and class most of the time - including on every Saturday. But soon enough my last two months here will come to an end, and I will be back seeing you all very soon!

Eurovision In Concert

German Adventures - Amsterdam

Hi everyone!

So these last two weeks have been rather busy, as usual!

Welcome Night

Welcome Night

Last week we had the Welcome Night, which was a party organised for international students, where I got to meet up with many of those who I had not seen since last semester, as well as some of the new people who have just arrived. Then this weekend I travelled to the Netherlands to visit Roel and Johan. On Friday I took the 6 hour/4 train trip to Helmond, passing through some of the West German cities like Osnabrück, Essen & Düsseldorf. On Saturday we, along with 2 more of Roel's friends drove to Amsterdam, where we walked around the city seeing all the sights, as well as having a few drinks - including one café where the waiter had the most peculiar English accent (despite being Dutch he sounded like a true Londoner!).

In the evening we went to Eurovision In Concert, where 23 of this year's acts were singing at a pre-party before the main event in May. The event was a sell out, with over 1,300 people in the audience seeing the singers from Latvia, Turkey, Spain, Hungary, Austria, Ireland (Jedward again - What the hell???) and the Netherlands amongst others, with San Marino being a particular highlight. (The video I took is here.) Who needs Baku now?!

After the show finished, there was an after party at a club round the corner, and we had free entry with our tickets. As we were walking there, I met Pastora from Spain and Trackshittaz from Austria (with whom I managed to get a photo). Some of the more 'party people' singers also went to the club, and we saw Trackshittaz again.

We then left Amsterdam at 4am, and got home about half 5, which meant we were all absolutely shattered! And so the next day was rather lazy, taking Johan to the airport, whilst me and Roel went to the cinema - my first time outside the UK (Dutchies just have subtitles). On Monday I left back for Bremen, again a 6hour/4 train affair though Dutch cities like 's-Hertogenbosch and Arnhem, where I got to see dykes!

This week has been the first with my German lessons, and they have not been going too badly. The lecturer seems to think I am one of the best in the class (she clearly hasn't seen my grammar), and I had a nice chat with her about why Geography is such a great subject to study. Yesterday I did my first lot of online shopping here, which wasn't as hard as I had feared due to it being all in German. Last night we had a little party in the dungeon with the Swedish and some others which was really nice, whilst tonight we are having the first Party House party of the semester!

Viel Spaß! Kevin.

Final full day, went to Antwerp to explore some of Belgium. Explored the Town Square, ate a waffle and some fries, before coming back and stopping at the old border control building.

After the excitement of the day previous, we spent the following day at the Efteling theme park. Spending time on the rides and with each other, learning new Dutch words on my first ever solo holiday.
